Hello. I am Louis.
It has been over 3 months since we got here in Dumaguete. We are a family of 4, 10 year old boy, 6 year old girl, wife, and me.
Why have we come here? Well.. there are several reasons, but put it simply, I think I just don't want to live in Korea anymore. I'm tired of working late at night all the time, and there are situations that are too complicated, unreasonable, or things I have to do even though they don't seem necessary... and so on... Should I say that I didn't like these several situations...? Also, I wanted my kids to learn some English staying here.
Anyway, I was wondering which country would be better... And, the Philippines looked good. 🙂
It's not that easy to live with young children, even not alone, in a foreign country with no connections, right?
So before I came here, I spent a lot of time looking into things. I got a lot of information from watching other people’s posts and videos. Of course, I'm still looking into the information from them.
But, when I actually got into doing stuff, there were some things I wish I had known in advance.
So, I thought if I wrote it down here, it might be helpful to someone.
And, you know? Maybe someone will read my writing, gain courage, and come here like me...
It would be great if that happened... There aren't many people worth making friends with here...
The only people I know here are the landlord where I live now, the tutor who taught my kids for a while, the teachers at my kids' school, and other parents.
I think it would be better to have a friend I can hang out with comfortably. Of course, if I go to a place like a bar where a lot of foreigners gather in the evening, I can make some friends, but that's usually a place where singles go, so I'm not really into it. I think I want to hang out with people who have something in common with me.
For your information, many foreigners are living here, but not many Koreans. Most foreigners seem to be from Western, Japan, and China.
Most Westerners seem to be elderly and single people who have come here to retire and spend the rest of their lives, while Japanese and Chinese people usually seem to have come with their families.
Today, I am ending this article here, and I will articles that may be helpful in the future.
This was recorded in the sea in Dauin, which is only 30 minutes from Dumaguete. It is a really nice spot to snorkel and dive.
